“Mahi tahi, kia angitu ai – Working together for Success” is our vision statement – our Maori Parent Hui and Ka Hikitia programme is a part of how we live our vision.
In Term 1 we survey parents to check that the date and time is suitable and to identify what key focus areas parents would like on the agenda.
In Terms 1-3 (usually on the Wednesday of Week 6) we hold a hui (6pm) for Maori parents. Our agenda includes a review of our strategy, progress and achievement to date and planning next steps. The hui provides the school with input and guidance.
In Term 4 the focus shifts to our Kapa Haka performance group preparation and setting the agenda for the following year.

‘Ka Hikitia’ – Accelerating Success 2013 – 2017 Ministry of Education strategy challenges schools to “step up, to lift or to lengthen ones stride” – it is therefore challenging us to step up how we perform as a school. We know that Maori students do much better when education reflects and values their identity, language and culture.
Our Kaumata blesses our new Ka Hikitia trophies. These will be issued for the first time in 2015.
In order for us to work towards this goal the Junior School has developed a Ka Hikitia strategic plan and Ka Hikita Programme. With input from parents, with the development of culturally responsive pedagogy, the use of support material like ‘Ta Taiako-Cultural Competencies for teachers of Maori students’ we are focused on improving outcomes for Maori students.
